Frequently asked questions

What are net calories?
Net calories are what you eat minus what you burn. Most calorie apps give you the same daily budget regardless of activity. Portional reads each day's active calories from Apple Health, so a gym day, a hike, and a rest day all produce different targets.
How does Portional handle privacy?
Your data stays on your device and syncs only through your private iCloud account. Portional has no servers that see your weight, calories, steps, or workouts.
Why isn't my Apple Health data syncing?
Open the iOS Settings app, go to Health → Data Access & Devices → Portional, and confirm permissions are enabled. If you declined them during onboarding, this is where you can grant them.
How do I sync data across devices?
Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all devices. Confirm iCloud is on in iOS Settings and that Portional is allowed to use it.
The barcode scanner can't find my product.
The database covers most packaged foods but not all. If a barcode doesn't return a match, use the label scanner to photograph the nutrition facts, or create a custom food entry by hand.
Is there a free version?
Portional is subscription-only, with a free trial. There's one tier — Pro — which unlocks every feature. If your subscription ends, your data stays and you can still view your history; new entries require an active subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. On iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Portional → Cancel. You'll keep access until the end of the billing period.
Does Portional work on iPad?
Yes. iPhone, iPad, and Mac all run Portional, with iCloud syncing data across them. Apple Health integration is available on iPhone and Apple Watch only.
